A beautiful ride for children and adults alike, this route runs at the foot of the western slopes of the Shawangunk Ridge. Many opportunities for bird-watching and wildlife spotting exist along the way. Don't miss the rail bridge in Rosendale for a spectacular view of the Rondout River.

From the late 1800's, the Wallkill Valley Railroad carried the region's fruit and vegetable crops to the New York City Market. 1977 marked the final train trip on this historic rail route.

Thanks to enthusiastic volunteers and visionaries, the rail route reopened in 1991 as the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Visit the Rail Trail website to learn more about this extraordinary community asset.
