Beautiful skies and cool temperatures greeted racers and spectators at the First Annual Rosendale Cyclocross race. Table Rock Tours and Bicycles sponsored this event which was held on Sunday, November 11 at the Rosendale Recreation Center Park.

The event kicked off at 10 am with the 35 plus age group tackling the serpentine, technical mile and a half loop.  Jorge Hernandez immediately took control of the race and established a formidable lead during the early laps.  The race finished after eight laps with Jorge keeping his lead and winning the event.

The next group to line up was the Men’s B race; again the race was fast and furious from the gun.  Local cross racer, Patrick Clifford, built an early lead but by half way through the race he was joined by two other competitors.  The last lap was exciting with the three separated by less than 30 seconds with David Wilson and Greg Martin going one, two.

In the 45 plus age group, Bill Irving rode clear of the chasers on the first lap and never looked back.  Tom Perkins worked his way through the field and beat out William Keith for his second place finish.

Next up was the 55 plus age group, juniors, and the women’s group.  Tara Parsons attacked from the gun and won the race handily.  The race for second, third and forth was much more interesting with Michelle Moffat, Kim Tischler, and Stacey Beneke battling it out and finishing in that order.  Gary Toth won the 55 plus race while his son, Joe Toth got by Joe McNalls to win the junior event.

The last race of the day, the Men’s C race had a sizeable field with many local riders partaking.  Joe Solomon and Sam Dodge duked it out for the entire event until Joe gapped him with a ¼ lap to go and won by a few seconds.  Local competitors that also placed were Alex Sherwood 3rd, Michael Newman 5th, Jonathon Favata 6th, Jeremy Dawkins 7th, Marc Gravatt 12th, Mark Vesery 15th, Miguel Angel Alarado 17th, and Eric Wiegeshoff 18th.

The USA Cycling New York officials, Gary and Don did an incredible job and were great to have at the event.
